Privacy policy
We keep this simple: we collect as little as we can, and we never sell your information.
What we collect
- A visitor cookie. One cookie with a random ID, so we count each visitor once a day for the visitor counter. It isn't used for advertising.
- Your approximate city. We look up the city your internet connection is in, to show "recent visitors from" on the homepage. We only show the city. We do not store your IP address; we keep a scrambled, one-way version of it so each visitor is only counted once a day.
- Your name, email, and website, if you apply to run a category or send us a message. Only to review it and reply to you.
- Your email and what you picked, if you use our "What would you want?" page. To learn what people want, to contact you if we send you something, and for occasional Generic.com news you can unsubscribe from anytime.
- Deal clicks. Which deals get clicked, so we know what people want.
- Google Analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand how people use the site (pages viewed, rough location, device). Google sets its own cookies for this. You can opt out with Google's browser add-on.
Links to other stores
Deals link to stores such as Walmart, Target, and Amazon. Those sites have their own privacy policies and may set their own cookies when you visit them. When you buy through our links, Generic.com may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. As an Amazon Associate, Generic.com earns from qualifying purchases.
Who we share with
We don't sell or rent your information. We use ip-api.com to look up approximate city from an internet address, and Google Analytics to measure site traffic.
Your choices
You can delete the visitor cookie in your browser settings at any time. To see or delete any information you sent us, use our contact form. California residents have the right to know about, delete, and opt out of the sale of their personal information. We don't sell personal information.
Kids
Generic.com is not meant for children under 13.
